I managed to label the items in Cartoweb using WFS provided attributes. So
far so good.

The query still does not work.

Is statement as follows acceptable for Cartoweb?

METADATA
          "id_attribute_string" "myns:XXX_ID|integer"
          "query_returned_attributes" "myns:XXX_ID"
END #METADATA
