Hi

Cartoweb is only a wrapper around Mapserver, meaning if Mapserver can not handle the language you want, Cartoweb will not solve Mapserver problem.

About the interface part, Cartoweb use gettext. As far as I know, gettext support most if not all languages, even right to left and special joined letters. Im am not a specialist of Gettext so I can only advice you to consult Gettext documentation or related forum for more informations.
By default, ISO-8859-1 and UTF-8 are supported in Cartoweb, if needed implementing other encoding is possible with some programmation.

There is a limitation with the PDF export because of the FPDF library used, it only support ISO-8859-1 at the moment (though we are looking at improving that in the next version of Cartoweb).

regards
Oliver

Subject: [Cartoweb-users] Newbie: Arabic-Farsi- Hebrew support?

  Hi all.
I'm new to Mapserver and cartoweb. I want to know if cartoweb is able to handle Arabic-Farsi(Persian) and Hebrew correctly (using gettext). In these languages letter join to each other to form a word not like others which letters are separate with no problem. also they are written right to left not left to right. This is an important point for labeling. I don't know a lot about gettext and reading cartoweb manual, sounds it should be done via gettext. Mapserver itself sounds have problem in joining letters.
in using Cartoweb for me this is very critical.
  Thanks in advance
