yes, you simply need to implement in your interface and template the correct javascript call needed to trigger an ajax action.
please look at the demoCW3 templates for examples.
also, be sure you have ajaxOn = true in your client.ini
2)
no, you can not use shapefile with these functionnalities
I would suggest to simply import your shapfile into postgis with shape2pgsql

  Hello to everyone.
  I want to make some questions about some of Cartoweb capabilities.

  1)I have noticed that when i use pan,zoom-in,zoom-out or when i select or deselect any layer,
  i must press regresh in order of the changes take place.
  Is there any way i can make this work more "real_time"?
  I mean without having to press refresh button.

  2)As i read from the manual, plugins Tooltips, Search, Locate and Routing (which i am interested on)
  read necessary data from a database.
  Since all my data are in a shape file is there any way i can use these functionalities?
