i) the reason is because the widget needs to create an instance of a class
provided in common/wrapper/map_navigator.php.  I haven't tested this again, but
the line of code to include this is in the latest cvs version, perhaps it wasn't
there before?

ii) agreed that it should be able to load without a mapdhtml widget

iii) this would be a new feature, it was not designed for embedding.
