When building an invalid query, like "column" = and then nothing (no value), 
the map waits forever. 

This sounds like a bug.  When no value is supplied then the resulting filter 
expression should just be "column = ''".  This should be a valid filter that 
returns no results.  Can you please file this as a bug?
