[Chameleon] Chameleon and CGDI questions

Hi,

I have some questions about Chameleon.

1) can Chameleon talk to any OpenGIS WMS server, or is it totally
dependent on UMN Mapserver?
2) are there any plans to create a querybuilder widget? And will it talk
to mapscript or will it use some kind of OpenGIS interface?

Chameleon is used in the Canadian geospatial data infrastructure. Do you
also know which tools are used for the following functions:
-web registry service
-gazetteer
-metadata service
?
