my appologies for using both chameleon and chameleon-announce lists ...
I'm not sure if everyone has had a chance to subscribe to
chameleon-announce yet.  Starting soon, however, release announcements
(such as this one) will only appear on the announce list.  The announce
list is a very low traffic list that will only have announcements such
as this one appearing on it.  We will also use it for important patches
and security alerts as necessary.

Chameleon 1.99 beta 4 is now available for download.  Due to a number of
changes in the core of Chameleon, I felt it was wiser to release another
beta than to proceed directly to a Release Candidate ...

Downloads for linux and Windows are available at

There are a number of new features, a couple of changes, and a bunch of
bug fixes.  Please read the release notes are available at:

This should be the last beta for version 1.99.

Starting with the first Release Candidate, we will be switching to 2.0
to bring the numbering scheme in line with our revised release strategy. 
  While the release plan is still being finalized, look for a final
release of 2.0 in early January followed by a couple of releases per
year, coinciding approximately with MapServer releases.
