Thanks for the responses Joanne and Paul.
I have tried your suggestions and am still recieving an error.
the error msg: " Warning: Unexpected character in input: '\' "
makes me think that original author of the code intends to escape the single
quote there. I am new to PHP and am unsure about all of it's syntax.
Paul, You have indicated that the general syntax for this line is:
$var = $bool ? $ifTrue : $ifFalse;
Is PHP picky about spaces? I will consult the documentation regarding the
use of alert().
Also Im developing with the MS4W package on WinXP. I wonder if there could
be an OS issue here.
Thanks again for your responses. Any further input is greatly welcome!
Jeremy

Actually, make that two single quotes...I think
...?'alert(\''.$this->mszReport.'\')':;

There also looks to be something out of whack with respect to the two
backslashes ('\') in the alert statement. I'm guessing there's supposed
to be a single quote (') after the first one, as in:
...?'alert(\'.$this->mszReport.'\')':;

Hi Jeremy,
the ternary syntax is
$var = $bool ? $ifTrue : $ifFalse;
this line of code is missing the $ifFalse part obviously. I'm not
entirely sure what should be there, probably just "" ...
Cheers
Paul
