[Chameleon] WIDGETSTYLE not working

I want my widget buttons centered in the toolbar.
this should be simple, but has been impossible.
this style is in the css:

.controlIcon {margin-bottom:7px;margin-left:1px; }

none of the following work:

<CWC2 TYPE="ZoomOut" ......WIDGETSTYLE = "controlIcon">
<CWC2 TYPE="ZoomOut" ......WIDGETSTYLE = "margin-bottom:7px">
<span class="controlIcon"><cwc2......></span>

surely his should be a no-brainer?
