Hi Jeremy,
The only reason I can see why the image can't make it to the browser is
that the directory is not web visible or you have another directory with
the same web path. I would suggest you to try to identify why the images
are not showing. Copy the button URL to another browser window. You
should get a 404 error. Then you have to find where this directory is, I
would guess that it's the same folder, but on the other disk.
Another hint you may have is the working images. Where the scalebar
image file is saved?
For the security issue, I'm really not a Windows specialist so I will
let others respond. However, since chameleon htdocs and your application
htdocs both have to be web visible, your disk will be accessible anyway...

PS: I'm sure you did it, but I'll mention it for the archive. Did you
reset your browser cache?
