[Chameleon] raster image showing up with 256 colors

Hi list,
I added a tiled raster layer (tiff format) to my map file, but it shows up 
with only 256 colors. I tried to display it using the mapserv cgi-bin binary 
and the layer showed up ok in 24 bit color. Is there a setting somewhere in 
chameleon to control the color depth? I looked in chameleon.xml but couldnt' 
find anything.
