Hi,
I think a big help for you would be to get a training session on
Chameleon and MapServer. There are companies who give that kind of
training. I don't know about Southwest US since I'm in Eastern Canada (
http://www.mapgears.com/contact_en.html ) though.
If there would be a conference in short term that would be a perfect fit
for you. However the next one in Vancouver is only in september. The
remaining options are doing it by yourself. I think you could do the
Chameleon 101 workshop and then the Advanced Chameleon Customization
one. Workshops available at:
http://www.omsug.ca/osgis2004/proceedings.html
I think Jason and Paul are on the list so they may help if you have
trouble to install.
Julien
PS: the advance workshop is also available in the wiki I think

However, I am lacking javascript and php skills. I also have two reference books on PHP which I am slowly going through. I also have reviewed some of the reference docs and howto's on the mapserver and Chameleon documentation sites. I have yet started to learn javascript, css, advanced html....
