[Chameleon] coordinates/database

Hello, here is my problem :

I have a mapserver/chameleon application and I would like to link it with a
database.

I want to draw a square, pick his coordinates (lat lon) and build a popup
with the results found in the database (text)

I thought to modify a widget (like 'request') but maybe it's easier to just
pick up the coordinates and make an html (php) request...

I don't really know where to go...
