color=#0000ff size=2>We are using Windows servers, but do not typically have
100s of concurrent users. Are you sure you will have that many? Because even
just 100 concurrent users will amount to almost 10,000 sessions a day, assuming
they use it for 15 minutes. That really is quite a lot. It's easy to
overestimate the number of concurrent users.</FONT></SPAN></DIV>

users), you would really need to run a pretty good machine. If it was me, I'd
run server hardware with multiple harddisks. In the case of raster images, I'd
also probably want 2GB of RAM. You will also notice a performance difference of
up to around 30% between "Windows XP" and "Windows 2003 Server" as operating
system.</FONT></SPAN></DIV>

color=#0000ff size=2>But as I said, it's easy to overestimate the number of
users. You *could* settle for something moderate, and check the number of users
you have with the hitcounter that Chameleon has. In your config.xml file, set
"count_hits" to "true", and make sure you have mapped "admin/htdocs" in Apache.
Then check out "viewstats.phtml". Then at least you'll know how many people are
really using it, and if there are more than you thought, upgrade your
hardware.</FONT></SPAN></DIV>

<DIV>Paul,</DIV>

<DIV>Now I've read again my message and I've noticed I've made a mistake (I
need to sleep more I guess). There were actually 4 users on a P4 1.4GHz 512RAM
and that was for testing. They've told me that was very slow for them. Is
it possible that it can be faster under Linux? Do I have to do something
tricky to make it run faster under Windows? Because they're expecting some
hundreds of users viewing the map, and with these tests they're doing they
don't feel very confident. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>What would be the minimum specs for a PC in order to run Chameleon and
Apache comfortably?</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Thanks a lot and sorry for my mistakes,</DIV>
