Simon,

There are lots of things that use GDAL I don't know anything about.  However,
I was told by briefly about this in the past though I had the impression at
the time it wasn't really "ready for prime time" - that is not end-user
bullet proof.

I'd try it but I don't actually have Google Earth installed here, and
such applications have poor performance for me over my high latency
satellite link to the Canadian Wilderness.
