[FWTools] Problem with GeoTIFF created by gdal_translate

Ok, well since you're splitting the image up using pixel coordinates, you  
could use the Lizardtech utility instead. It's called MrSidDecode, and you  
can get it for Linux at  
http://www.lizardtech.com/download/dl_download.php?detail=geo_mrsiddecode&platform=lin.  
There are some examples in the doc of how to use it to extract a region  
from an image, and how to make sure it has georeferencing etc.

Might be worth a shot.
