[FWTools] merge DEM tiles

I would first try "gdalbuildvrt" to make a virtual mosaic and then convert 
from *.vrt to other format like Tiff using "gdal_translate". Or if your 
application supports the GDAL virtual (*.vrt) format, you can just use 
that directly.
