committed initial version of this based loosely on supplied code.  The code is pretty non-optimal because 
the metatile is recreated for every tile that is part of the metatile.  In the default configuration, this means 
that a 1000x1000 map is drawn for every single 200x200 tile that is requested.

Anyone have any ideas on how to avoid this and still force a redraw?
