there is a low level function in the kaMap API called slideBy.
Unfortunately, this was written to facilitate recenter by doubleclick
and only works in pixel coordinates.
Ideally we should have an equivalent to the google function panTo
(used to be called something else) which slides the map if the
requested location is in the view, otherwise it jumps ...
I think this would be a useful addition but I don't have time to look
into it right now.
