Chris is right about fontSize.  Alternately (or perhaps as well) you  
can set div.style.lineHeight = '1px' to achieve the same effect.

um this could be a side effect of the first problem I suppose.  Are  
you actually adding something to the map or is this the query tool  
that you are talking about?
