Ishiakwa,

that comment is no longer valid, the code now figures this out  
correctly.

There have been some posts recently about black tiles.  I didn't  
follow it closely but I think it ended up being a map file issue  
(transparency?)

I suggest searching the archives ... or perhaps someone else will  
chime in?
