you are right, I had a quick look to map_query_float.php
that $a is not defined before in that code.

do you have the time to dive a little more on that code and clean it up?
I'm actually particularly busy and before doing a patch on the fly I 
would need to do a better analysis.

I will really appreciate and publish your code.
