I tested the code.

It works with shapefile and Postgis.

i'd like to give a look to your php. Can you send it by mail?
Just a question: does your mapserver run under linux or do you use ms4w?
I'm afraid there's a bug with the Search function on postgis layer
with Mapserver 4 Windows.
