[Maplab-dev] Invalid image extent on create New Map

I vaguely remember this from earlier, but wondered what the status is or
work-around to the problem.
When I create a new map file, the left frame gives the error:

Fatal error: [MapServer Error]: msCalculateScale(): Invalid image extent,
minx=-1.000000, miny=-1.000000, maxx=-1.000000, maxy=-1.000000. in
C:\ms4w\apps\maplab3\htdocs\common\wrapper\map_session.php on line 241

I know the workaround last time I hit this was to stick with using premade
map files - can I stop doing this now?
