Oh, I didn't know that you had a problem with NS 4.79.  So what
happens?  You get a broken image when you try to view the image URL? 
Perhaps try replacing the "content-type: image/gif" with "content-type:
text/html" in drawmap.php and access the faulty URL.  You will then see
if the output is an empty document, an error message, or actual GIF
(binary) data.
