Sasha,
After a hard try, I was able to compile an install a php4 cgi of version 
4.2.3. 
Now, when I navigate to <server>/maplab/htdocs with my browser I receive a 
white page with only 2 lines at the top:

X-Powered-By: PHP/4.2.3 Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981 08:52:00 GMT 
Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, 
pre-check=0 Pragma: no-cache Content-type: text/html 

What does that mean? 
There is no error message...
