Wesley,

Layers which have their TEMPLATE parameter set to some value will be
queryable in the gmapfactory application. You have to click on
something quite precisely unless you set TOLERANCE to a higher value
(it's in pixels) for the layers in question.

To edit the data returned, you need a different tool that is designed
to work with shapefiles. Maplab doesn't have this capability but qgis
or Udig are suitable open source applications.
