[mapserver-users] SDE Direct Connect

Has anyone connected to an Oracle Spatial (or SDE) layer using the SDE direct connect feature? I'd like to be able to query Oracle Spatial and use the more developed SDE connection interface to do it, however I am having problems specifing the instance parameter (which for direct connect should be sde:oracle). 

I get 

msSDELayerOpen(): SDE error. SE_connection_create(): The file path does not exist, or is too long (> 512 chars), or has invalid characters.. (-269). 

Any ideas?
