[Mapserver-users] Itemquery results with no HTML page?

I would like to know if an itemquery result can be returned to the map image html page rather than a new html page, without displaying the results to the user. 
I am trying to zoom to a point, by getting the point ID from an input text box, querying the shapefile for the ID using ITEMQUERY and returning the IMGEXT as an attribute from the shapefile. I can then change the IMGEXT using a javascript function.  But I do not know how to set the TEMPLATE in the map file to perform this function.

I am building the mapserver using the java applet mapimage and if anyone knows an easier way to perform a zoom to point I would greatly appreciate the help.
