You can do this with a simple perl-oneliner (I include this in my buildscript)

# set number of symbols to 128
perl -p -i'.orig' -e 's/#define MS_MAXSYMBOLS \d+/#define MS_MAXSYMBOLS 128/' mapsymbol.h
