Rémi,
Specifying a projection in MapServer is NOT mandatory. The only time you
need to do this is when you are combining data sets from a variety of
projections, or you want to show the data in a different projection
(perhaps your data is geographic, and you want to display it in albers).
The "default" projection is the projection of your data... basically as
long as all of your layers use the same projection. It IS important,
however, to make sure you specify the correct UNITS in your mapfile, as
this directly affects the SCALE settings in MapServer.
