[Mapserver-users] Raw shapefile question

Hi,

I was goin through the Technical Description for Shapefiles from ESRI at 
www.esri.com/library/whitepapers/pdfs/shapefile.pdf

I like to know in which languge is the file being coded.
Are the tables (the record and content tables of Shape Type) used just in 
designing? Or some compiler actually utalizes this data.

Does anyone have a source code of any shapefile along with its final 
shapefile. I just need an example to understand.
