[Mapserver-users] Raw shapefile question

A shapefile is just a format for storing data as described in the
document below. There is no language, compiler or anything else. You can
write a shapefile reader/writer in any language you choose, but this has
already been done... There are lot's of shapefile examples you can
download off the web.

I was goin through the Technical Description for Shapefiles from ESRI
at
www.esri.com/library/whitepapers/pdfs/shapefile.pdf
I like to know in which languge is the file being coded.
Are the tables (the record and content tables of Shape Type) used just
in
designing? Or some compiler actually utalizes this data.
Does anyone have a source code of any shapefile along with its final
shapefile. I just need an example to understand.
