Well, I bit the bullet and recompiled php as cgi and am nearly done
installing mapserver, but have just been struggling with a very similar
problem with PostGIS. It needs the source tree from the Postgres
installation in order to compile properly, and it happens that I
couldn't/probably can't install Postgres from the source for odd reasons
having to do with totally unrelated config issues. I wonder if anyone on the
list has managed to install PostGIS without a source tree, or knows how to
do it? I'd hate to have to leave it out especially with the new Geos
libraries available.
