It should be the same for line or points AFAIK, but as usual there is 
always the possibility of a bug.  The first thing to do would be to make 
sure that your layer and label definition are correct, and if they are 
then perhaps submit a bug in bugzilla with a small test script that 
demonstrates the problem.
