[Mapserver-users] clip and calc area

Can the following be done in mapserver/mapscripts:

1) Clip a shapefile layer using a polygon generated by the user on the web 
interface?
2) Calculate the area for each polygon in the CLIPPED shapefile layer?

If so, could you give me pointers to accomplish this? Examples are welcomed.
