Hello,
Sorry for taking so long with the introduction.
My name is Chris Clements, I work for Western Forest Products. Mapserver
and the whole world of OpenGIS is pretty new to me, my first introduction
was in September of 2004. We were looking for a cost effective / flexible
way to distribute our GIS data to everyone in the company (which is pretty
spread out). We came across Mapserver and have been using it since. At
this time, I am the only one in the company working on it, but am trying to
get some more people working on it. We have set up an internal server, that
I serving out all or our inventories in Shapefiles and images (Orthophotos
and Satellite) in TIFF format. Right now users can do some basic point and
click identifying of features, printing and viewing maps.
Plans for the future include expanding that to include PostGIS and
GeoServer. We would like to develop it internally to a point where users
could access all of our GIS inventories and be able to update certain
features (i.e. land slide reporting), and do some basic overlays, buffers
and queries/reports and add some search options.
As well we plan on setting up an external site for things like Forest
Stewardship Plans and general maps for the public but that is still a long
ways down the line.
Chris
