Hello all:

Since the question was raised, here's the short version of what we're running:

1) The "cheap version" is running on HostGIS Linux 1.0 (Gregor has since 
released an upgraded version of HostGIS) on a PC I threw together from 
spare parts for testing purposes, total cost about $300 for the hardware. 
That is the machine Matt developed applications we then hammered with about 
125 intro GIS students in our courses last fall (in labs of around 24 
concurrent users). No problems at all.

2) In our University research lab we're also running MS on our Sun Solaris 
8 and 9 systems, those are for our R&D as well as production servers. If 
you want models and more specs on these you can hit my lab site at: 
http://www.humboldt.edu/~asaf where several MS projects sites are linked 
(in various stages of completeness on various versions and with different 
features, add ons, etc.

In general we run MS with Apache, Postgres, and the other usual suspects. 
We're always interested in trying new things both on campus and in 
collaboration with Doug et. al. at HostGIS.

I'm particularly interested in learning about Steve Monai's work with the 
real time GPS data as we're looking at getting other real time sensor data 
integrated with our postgres databases in the coming year (especially the 
CI-CORE project linked on the above site).

Comments, suggestions and ideas are always welcome!

Any additional thoughts on times and locations for a get-together for the 
B.C. folks?
