Hi Dean,
Apologies to all for 'lurking' here without properly introducing myself.
Just to get that over with - I know Tyler well, having given a few
presentations together representing DM Solutions Group. We've been
involved in MapServer since the early days when there were only 100
members of the mailing list, no PHP mapscript, no regular builds for
Windows, no OGC support ... things have come a long way since then.
I figured I'd keep in touch on this list to see what people are talking
about and looking for, and adding the odd comment in here and there as
required.
On that note, we have some material on Open Source for spatial - and in
particular how/why we got into it as a company at:
http://www.dmsolutions.ca/technology/opensource.html
You can also learn a lot more from a number of perspectives on this
during the management track that DM has organized at the upcoming
conference in Minnesota:
http://www.dmsolutions.ca/images/events/BUSspeakers.pdf
and in a panel discussion along the same theme on the final day.
And BTW - on a totally off-topic note -- if any of you are interested in
our recently launched ka-Map open source MapTools project
(http://ka-map.maptools.org), Steve Lime is working with Paul Spencer on
sneaking a presentation on this in at the conference as well.
Dean -- if you could use any other of my more recent presentations on
open source, why/why-not and business model -- let me know and I'll send
you something off-list.
Dave
