Hello Andreas,

There is actually an existing ticket filed for that, and you can add 
yourself to the ticket and provide testing feedback and comments: 
http://bugzilla.maptools.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2286

GDAL 1.8.0 is also very close to be being released, so that with 
MapServer 5.6.6 will be included in the next MS4W release.

If you cannot wait until the release please contact me directly for a 
custom build.
