we will soon release a commercial application that uses PROJ.
It will be free software, so I like you to not set equal commercial
and proprietary. In the area of free software you will  find several
products using PROJ. Frank, how about maintaining a list
of all the products (free and not free) that use PROJ?

I recommend not to develop your own projection. The costs would
be immense where testing would take the most.
You can better spend far less money when you adopt a free software
library and pay the maintainer to quickly fix or extend where needed.
So, PROJ itself is a commercial product (Frank Warmerdam can
offer professional service for PROJ and from my personal
experience he is doing a very good job).
