[Proj] PROJ from the comand line (Symbol ERROR)

Interesting, this is a new program for me: ldd -v returned

 linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xffffe000)
        libproj.so.0 => /usr/local/lib/libproj.so.0 (0xb7fac000)
        libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0xb7f8b000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0xb7e90000)

I don't see a reference to pj_list or pj_version. Man page doesn't realy 
help me understand what is going on here... I assume I see two sections 
(one of which is a version section). It shows me my library linkages for 
the proj exec, and they seem to make sense. Maybe this says my problem 
is not libraries?
