[Proj] Proj.4 speed?

Hello,

has anybody done any speed tests with proj.4
lately? Especially has the speed of later version
been verified?

Why do I have a feeling that the 4.7 versions
might be slower than 4.6 versions? At  least the
initialization is slower? or?

My second concern are the NAD grid files and all
that stuff. I am afraid of missing data files and/or
outdated files etc. and everything going bananas?
There might be some good manual about grid
files with proj.4 somewhere which I should read
before starting my cry?
