[Shapelib] segmentation fault

[shapelib@lists.maptools.org]

I'm getting some 'Segmentation fault' errors while trying to run some of 
the following applications:

$ shpdata br_uf
(shpdata) Ring(0) (0 for 6816)
 cloning SHP (1 parts) from ring 0 upto ring 1
 from part 0 (0) to 1 (6816) is 6816 vertices
Segmentation fault

$ shpdxf br_uf SIGLAUF
file has 78 objects
Segmentation fault
# this only creates a blank file ( brdxf ) and nothing more.
