Pierre,
the "aggregate" function works fine for my needs but only if the "alternate" 
layers don't have a classification. Only if I don't declare a NAME parameter 
in the CLASS object in the Mapfile I can "hide" the existence of two 
alternate layers but in this way I loose the chance to show the classes in 
which a layer can be divided (with relative symbols). This limitation in 
unacceptable in some situations. If I declare the classes the two alternate 
layers are shown contemporarly in the legend even if we declare the 
layergorup as "aggregate" in layer.ini.
