I'm afraid "viewUpgradeOutdated" parameters won't help.

The view upgrade system [1] is only useful to make views work when the 
plugin session data structures have changed (ie. new code, not new data).

Concerning the bug, I've added a bugreport and submitted a patch [2].
I'll commit it into the CVS later in the day or tomorrow if no one find 
a problem.
