[Chameleon] drawmap and red cross

Hi list,

lately I have been experiencing a lot of red crosses in my Chameleon
applications. I first thought it was Mapscript but now I have gone back to
PHP/Mapscript 4.2 release version I still have it.

Sometimes the map loads progressively, and then it stops and the red cross
appears. Sometimes even the red cross appears before the map image shows.

I upgraded to the latest drawmap.php as I assumed this caused the problem
(my assessment of this can be wrong however), but no changes. There does
not seem to be any regularity in the red cross appearing.

PHP/Mapscript only serves CONNECTIONTYPE WMS layers in my apps.

Any ideas on how to solve or debug this?
