[Chameleon] Grouping WMS Layers in HTML Legends

>From the HTML How-to document:

"When the [leg_group_html] tag is used, then layers that don't belong to
any group (i.e. LAYER GROUP not set in the mapfile) and their classes
will not show up at all in the legend."

WMS layers added "on-the-fly" to a map (e.g. using Chameleon-WMS
Browser) do not have a "group" and so they are not included in the
legend if the leg_group_html tag is used. If DHTML is used to hide/show
groups of layers in the legend (Thanks Paul!!!), the WMS layers aren't shown, and hence can't be controlled using widgets like LayerManager2..

Can nested layers from a Capabilities document be "group"ed in an HTML legend?
