Kevin,

unfortunately there is no way to do this right now.  There are a  
couple of possibilities:

1) integrate the work Mike Adair has done on MapBuilder in porting  
Proj to javascript (yes, really!) ... depending on the projection you  
are using, it may be possible to convert coordinates on the fly

2) create a grid of known lat-lon values for the current view and use  
it to interpolate the current lat-lon.
