Hi,
I would also add to others comments that you should probably check to
optimize your mapfile as much ass possible. That's quite often a bottle
neck. Check:
http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/docs/howto/mapfiletuning
And also check to have shapefiles (fastest) or PostGIS DB (fastest for
complex queries or complex classification) datasource.
